Rear-wheel-drive sports sedans like the archetypal BMW 3 Series and Cadillac CT4 are consistently excellent vehicles that combine four-door practicality with reasonable efficiency and a high degree of driver engagement. For 2024, Cadillac is leaving the CT4 lineup mostly unchanged aside from new colors across the lineup and 20th anniversary badging on the high-powered V-series variants.

Power and Premium Luxury

A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 237 horsepower and 258 pounds-feet of torque is the standard engine in the CT4’s Luxury trim level; it’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Buyers that choose the mid-grade Premium Luxury trim can opt for a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder with 310 hp and 350 pounds-feet of torque bolted to a 10-speed automatic; navigation and a 14-speaker Bose sound system are also included with this option. RWD is standard, and all-wheel drive is available for $2,000.

Those opting for the Sport trim get upgraded brakes but can’t opt for the larger engine. To pair the 2.7-liter with any dynamic upgrades, buyers must step up to the CT4-V in which the engine is mated to the 10-speed automatic and squeezes out 325 hp and 380 pounds-feet. The CT4-V’s suspension is firmed up for sharper handling, too.

The CT4-V Blackwing is to the CT4 what the M3 is to the BMW 3 Series: an all-out sports car that happens to have a backseat. In the Blackwing, a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V-6 sends 472 hp and 445 pounds-feet through a standard six-speed manual transmission. A 10-speed automatic is available, but AWD is not. In true sports-sedan tradition, the Blackwing is only available with RWD.
