The 2023 Dodge Hornet aims to break the Stellantis performance brand into the crowded compact SUV class thanks to its focus on the driving experience and value. Dodge has revealed more information on the latter, with the base Hornet GT starting at $31,590 (pricing includes $1,595 destination fee).
Performance for the GT and GT Plus trims comes from a 265-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. But in addition to being Dodge’s first compact SUV in its current lineup, it’s also the brand’s first plug-in hybrid thanks to the range-topping R/T, which gets a turbo 1.3-liter four-cylinder paired with a 90-kilowatt electric motor and 15.5-kilowatt-hour battery pack good for a system total of 285 hp. The R/T also swaps out the nine-speed automatic for a six-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is standard across the entire lineup.
Inside, the GT comes equipped with a 10.25-inch Uconnect infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 17-inch alloy wheels and cloth seats. The Hornet GT also comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert and lane keeping assist. Buyers that step up to the GT Plus get 14-speaker Harmon Kardon premium audio, heated and ventilated leather seats, a hands-free power liftgate, remote start and a wireless charging pad. Both trims can also trade the 17-inch wheels for larger 18- or 20-inch wheels.
Pricing and Release Date
The 2023 Dodge Hornet GT and GT Plus are available to order now. Dodge hasn’t released pricing for the range-topping R/T yet, but expect that closer to its on-sale date in the spring.
GT: $31,590
GT Plus: $36,590
That’s significantly less than the other SUV with which it shares its underpinnings and technology, the 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale, which starts at $44,590. (Alfa Romeo and Dodge are both brands of parent automaker Stellantis.) It also compares favorably with other model-year 2023 rivals in the class: The Hyundai Kona N starts at $36,285, the Lexus UX 250h at $36,490 and the Mazda CX-30 2.5T at $35,075 (prices include destination).
