2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Surpasses Goals With 320-Mile Maximum Range

Following recent leaks, Ford has officially confirmed EPA-estimated ranges for its new all-electric 2022 F-150 Lightning pickup truck, and it actually exceeds the manufacturer’s initial range targets — in specific trims. Extended-range versions of the XLT, Lariat and Pro will have 320 miles of range (the extended-range Pro is currently only sold to commercial fleet buyers), and the loaded extended-range Platinum will have 300 miles of range. The standard-range battery will provide 230 miles of range regardless of trim level.

Is It Competitive With Other Electric Pickups?

While beaten to the market by the Rivian R1T, the extended-range F-150 Lightning XLT and Lariat have slightly longer ranges — 320 miles to the Rivian’s 314 miles. Rivian has, however, announced a larger battery pack that it says will increase range to 400 miles, though it hasn’t yet been tested by the EPA. Other electric pickups are also awaiting EPA ratings: GMC says the Hummer EV will have a maximum range of 329 miles, and the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV is targeting 400 miles of range.

Pricing and Release Date

The 2022 F-150 Lightning starts at $41,669 for a standard-range Pro, with prices rising all the way to $92,569 for a loaded Platinum (all prices include a $1,695 destination fee but not any potential tax credits). Deliveries are scheduled to begin this spring, but new orders will likely have to wait longer.
