Go-Anywhere Volkswagen Atlas? Not Quite, But Basecamp Add-Ons Offer Off-Road Style
If you liked the adventure-themed Basecamp Concept version of the Atlas SUV that Volkswagen unveiled at last year’s New York Auto Show, you’ll likely find at least a little something to like about the automaker’s new Basecamp Accessory Line — designed to make your 2021 Atlas look like it can go anywhere.

The package, produced by Air Design, is heavy on styling equipment and light on off-road features. In the style department, the model wears a two-tone satin-silver and textured anthracite front bumper guard, textured anthracite fender flares with integrated splash guards, satin-silver side door rocker panels and satin-silver rear bumper components with trailer hitch access. It also comes with Basecamp badges on the front quarter panel.
The Basecamp concept featured off-road-themed extras like a suspension lift kit, but the only equipment that carries over to the production package is a version of the wheels: 17-inch Traverse MX wheels produced specifically for VW by Fifteen52. They were first seen on the Atlas Basecamp concept and can be had in two colors: frosted graphite and radiant silver.
Volkswagen didn’t immediately announce pricing for the package. However, it did say it won’t be available on all versions of the Atlas, including models not equipped with a trailer hitch as well as R-Line versions.
