For many years, the Cadillac Escalade was synonymous with large luxury SUVs. It had the cachet, the look and a place in the popular lexicon. But the class has grown a lot since then and the Escalade is no longer the preeminent large luxury SUV, falling behind competitors like the Lincoln Navigator and BMW X7 when it comes to plush accommodations and, especially, technology.

The good news is, Cadillac has a chance to jump back in front. A redesigned Escalade is coming for the 2021 model year, and the new SUV will be introduced in early 2020. Details about the new Escalade are starting to come out, and the first bit of news is a big one — 38 inches big, to be exact.

That will be the total diagonal measurement of the displays in the Escalade. Cadillac released a short video teaser showing the new screen … or is it screens? It’s hard to tell if what’s being shown is one large panel or two screens side-by-side with a slight offset similar to what’s currently found in Mercedes-Benz vehicles. In the Mercedes, those screens display a wealth of information (arguably too much at times), so it will be interesting to see how Cadillac decides to utilize the space.

More From Cars.com:

This won’t be the first curved display we’ve seen. The forthcoming Porsche Taycan has a curved screen that displays information to the driver. But it is first curved organic light-emitting diode display thrown into a production vehicle, Cadillac says, and it will have twice the pixel density of a 4K TV. The video tease didn’t show these screens in action, and as sharp as they may be, our greater priority will be on how well they work rather than how they look.

We still have our own wish list of items that we’d like to see on the redesigned Escalade, but these screens are enough to pique our interest in the meantime. Stay tuned for more Escalade news as we approach the big SUV’s unveiling on Feb. 4.
