2021 Acura TLX Type S on Pace to Produce Proper Power

Acura casually dropped a key bit of information about the all-new 2021 TLX Type S recently: The new turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 is “expected to produce 355 horsepower and 354 pounds-feet of torque.” We’d been wondering if the Type S would have the performance to back up its sports sedan looks — and while we don’t have 0-60 times or lap times to use as performance benchmarks, those figures put the Type S in the same range as other luxury and premium sports sedans like the Audi S4, BMW M340 and Genesis G70 3.3T.

Acura “buried the lede,” as we say in our business, when it announced its three race entrants in the upcoming Aug. 30, 2020, Pikes Peak International Hill Climb — two 2021 TLX sedans and a NSX supercar — and shared that a prototype 2021 TLX Type S would be the pace car for the event.

The Type S prototype pace car will also feature optional lightweight wheels that will be available on the production car.

The regular TLX, powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, goes on sale in the fall, and the Type S will follow in the spring.
