All Equinox models now have forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with steering assist and automatic high-beam headlights. Many of these features were optional last year or only on some trim levels.
The Midnight Edition is available on the LT trim for 2020. It includes a Mosaic Black Metallic exterior color, Jet Black interior with perforated leather-appointed seating, 19-inch wheels in Gloss Black, front foglamps with dark-finish bezel surrounds, black grille and grille mesh with black surround, and black Bow-Tie emblems.
Outside, three new exterior colors join the list — Chocolate Metallic, Cayenne Orange Metallic (extra cost) and Midnight Blue Metallic — and a Jet Black leather seat package is now available on LT trims.
Otherwise, the SUV again comes in four trim levels (L, LS, LT and Premier) with front- or all-wheel drive. The powertrains carry over for 2020: The base engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder. Available on LT and Premier trims is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. Both engines pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Also unchanged for 2020 is the Equinox’s price, which starts at $24,995, including destination. The Equinox competes in the large and competitive compact SUV class against the likes of the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and Volkswagen Tiguan; see them compared. The Equinox was last redesigned for model-year 2018 and will be refreshed for 2022.
