Vehicles Affected: Approximately 220 model-year 2019-20 BMW 330i sedans and model-year 2019 Z4 coupes
The Problem: The needle roller bearings of the counterbalance shafts may have been improperly installed, potentially causing the counterbalance shaft to loosen and cause severe engine damage, increasing the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will replace the engine for free.
What Owners Should Do: BMW will begin notifying owners Dec. 6. Owners can call BMW at 800-525-7417, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
