2018 Volkswagen Atlas Review: Photo Gallery

CARS.COM — Volkswagen hopes its new 2018 Atlas mid-size SUV on display at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show will garner it some favorable press for a change.
The Atlas will join a very crowded playing field of three-row SUVs. It sports traditional VW styling with a clean, uncluttered exterior design; if you’ve seen the CrossBlue concept from the 2013 North American International Auto Show, you’re familiar with the looks of the Atlas. The rear is upright to allow for room for third-row seating, made possible by a design that’s nearly 10 inches longer and 1.5 inches wider than the two-row Touareg.

Volkswagen played it safe with the interior, much like it did with the exterior. The materials are nice and the layout is familiar for those who have been inside the 2017 Passat or Golf Alltrack. The most intriguing feature is what VW calls its Digital Cockpit (its version of Audi’s Virtual Cockpit) that will allow drivers to customize the digital gauge cluster.
The seven-seater features a second row that slides and is able to tilt forward when a forward-facing child-safety seat is installed to allow for easier third-row access. The sliding second row and upright exterior design actually makes the third row roomy enough for adults, a relative rarity in the class.
