Vehicles Affected: Approximately 50,500 model-year 2018-19 Honda Odyssey minivans
The Problem: Loose battery terminal connections or a degraded battery may cause the transmission control unit to unexpectedly reboot. The TCU may shift the transmission to Park upon rebooting, possibly damaging the parking rod and allowing the vehicle to roll when parked, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
The Fix: Dealers will ensure the battery terminal connections are secure and will update the TCU software for free. They also will inspect the effectiveness of the parking rod.
What Owners Should Do: Honda will begin notifying owners June 1. Owners can call the automaker at 888-234-2138, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
