CARS.COM — You’ll often hear cars described as “fun to drive.” But they’re really fun to drive when they’re a) the 2017 Nissan GT-R Track Edition, and b) made available to you months before they debut at, say, the 2017 New York International Auto Show, where our on-the-scene team is seeing the special edition supercar for, yawn, the second time.

More 2017 New York Auto Show Coverage

We recently got to take a few turns around the track in the Track Edition at Roebling Road Raceway outside Savannah, Ga. Auto-show audiences will now have a chance to see what we saw, albeit without the inertia, speed, velocity, etc. (#sorrynotsorry)

If it’s any consolation, this special-order-only GT-R is “merely” the middle child in terms of performance among its GT-R sibs, slotting between the Premium and NISMO versions, and using the same 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 as the former for a 565-horsepower output. Though it packs 35 fewer horses than the NISMO, the Track Edition takes on a nearly identical appearance, appropriating the big dog’s angry-fish-faced countenance, overall body style, unique front fenders, quad exhaust, and rigidity-enhancing spot welds and adhesive bonding.

Inside the cockpit, the Track Edition gets its own black-and-red race-themed interior motif, featuring leather-covered Recaro sport seats with contrast red stitching, GT-R badging on the contrast-stitched leather sport steering wheel, and carbon-fiber trim on the dash and center console. The Track Edition also gets the NissanConnect multimedia system with an 8-inch touchscreen standard.

The Track Edition rings up right between fellow GT-Rs at $129,585, including a destination charge. But before you log in to your bank account to double-check how much is in your kids’ college fund, have a gander at the photo gallery above from our track day with the Track Edition.
