If you don’t immediately recognize the 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage, it’s not your eyes playing tricks on you. The inexpensive subcompact hatchback, which bowed at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, has undergone a substantial face-lift for the new model year. The updated Mirage adds a wider hexagonal mesh grille in place of its predecessor’s slit opening. Meanwhile, black plastic surrounds for the fog lights as well chrome accents add some previously lacking attitude.
More-defined creases and character lines, particularly down the center of the hood and across the door panels, make for a shapelier, sportier appearance. Inside, the cabin is dressed in shades-of-gray upholstery with white contrast stitching on the seats.
