Vehicles Affected: Approximately 3,700 model-year 2015-16 Kia Soul EV electric hatchbacks
The Problem: The parking mechanism may become damaged if the driver moves the gear selector into Park before coming to a complete stop. If the mechanism is damaged, unintended vehicle movement may occur when the gear selector is in Park and the parking brake is not applied, increasing the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will update the electronic control unit software for free.
What Owners Should Do:Kia will begin notifying owners Aug. 7. Owners can call the automaker at 800-333-4542, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
