The Volvo S80 is the Scandinavian automaker’s largest sedan and flagship model with room for five occupants. The S80 is mildly restyled for 2014 and has new feature content inside. The S80 competes with the Acura TL, Audi A6 and Hyundai Genesis Sedan.
New for 2014 The S80 has mildly tweaked front styling, a new multimedia system and a digital display replacing traditional gauges.
ExteriorVolvo says the S80’s new front and rear styling creates a stretched effect to make the car appear wider and lower through the use of new daytime running lamps and rounding off of the rear taillights. Chrome exterior highlights have been added to give the S80 an elegant feel. Exterior features include:
Standard 17-inch wheels
Available 18-inch wheels
Available 19-inch wheels
Available heated windshield
InteriorThe S80 seats five occupants and gains a standard configurable digital gauge cluster for 2014 that replaces a standard tachometer and speedometer. Configurable displays include a traditional appearance, eco theme with eco meter and green background or a performance theme with red background.
Other new technology includes a Sensus Connected Touch multimedia system with 7-inch display. Sensus receives an internet connection from a wireless card or mobile phone to power apps like internet radio, weather and a web browser. The S80 Inscription package adds high-end leather from supplier Bridge of Weir in Scotland, which Volvo says is softer and more natural than other leathers. Interior features include:
Available multimedia system with in-car apps and internet connectivity
Ambient lighting
Available heated steering wheel
Under the hoodThe S80 is powered by a 3.2-liter naturally aspirated six-cylinder making 240 horsepower in 3.2 trim levels, or a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder making 300-hp in T6 trim levels. The latter trim level gains new transmission tuning to quicken shifting times and improve zero-to-60 mph times from 6.3 to 6.0 seconds compared to 2013. Two suspensions are offered, a comfort suspension and lowered sport suspension with optional 19-inch wheels.
240-hp, 3.2-liter six-cylinder (3.2)
300-hp, turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder (T6)
Six-speed automatic transmission
Front-wheel drive for 3.2, all-wheel drive for T6
SafetyVolvo’s City Safety technology is standard and includes a low-speed collision prevention feature that works at speeds up to 31 mph to automatically brake when a collision is detected.
