Mechanically and structurally, the 2014 4Runner is practically identical to the 2013 model. With the exception of a new cross member and stiffer brake lines, all the changes for this generation are cosmetic.
In the market, the traditional ladder frame and one engine option make the 4Runner a unique player in a crowded segment of car-based choices.
New for 2014 For 2014 the new 4Runner gets a taller, wider front grille area, sculpted projector headlights and non-functional vent fog-light surrounds.
A backup camera is now standard at all levels, as is trailer-sway control, and there are four new colors (two offered across the lineup, two others model specific). A new gauge cluster, steering wheel, a redesigned center-stack layout and seating materials are the only changes to the interior.
Exterior The 4Runner has three distinct front-end looks to give the three trims more visual separation. SR5 models have more body-colored front crossbars and bumpers; the Trail has a blacked-out wide-mouth look with a bumper styled to look more like a skip plate, and the Limited uses an extra chromed cross member through the larger lower grille for a more polished look.
