2014 Honda Civic Coupe: First Look

Ahead of its full unveiling at this month’s 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, Honda unveiled details on one version of the 2014 Civic: the racier Civic Si. Available as a coupe or sedan, the Si gets a retuned exhaust to make slightly more power. The Civic sedan carries over visually, while the coupe, which lacked the sedan’s extensive 2013 visual updates, gets an exterior refresh for 2014. Honda says it revised the grille, hood, fenders, headlights and mirrors; the rear received darker taillights and reshaped bumpers. The result ties the headlights together with a stretched, joining grille; large side openings now dominate the front bumper, too, while the rear has a boxier bumper with horizontal reflectors.

The Si coupe gets a larger trunk spoiler than last year’s, while the bumpers incorporate the Accord coupe’s vertical cuts. Front and rear air diffusers are new, and both the Si sedan and coupe swap last year’s 17-inch alloy wheels for 18s. Revised exhaust in the Civic Si increases engine output to 205 horsepower and 174 pounds-feet of torque, up from last year’s 201 hp and 170 pounds-feet, from a 2.4-liter four-cylinder. The engine drives the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.

Honda unveiled the 2014 Civic coupe at Las Vegas’ 2013 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show. The automaker’s Honda Performance Development division, which heretofore specialized in the racing scene, also announced plans to build street-legal performance accessories beginning with a supercharger kit for the CR-Z. It goes on sale in spring 2014.
