The problem: These vehicles may emit a sulfur smell after sitting in direct sun on a hot day (a hot soak, as it’s called). The moonroof drain tubes get clogged with organic debris, and when that debris mixes with water, it rots. A paste then forms that, when combined with the heat of the direct sun, causes a sulfur stench to emanate from the roof.
Corrective action: On affected vehicles, Infiniti dealers will replace the moonroof drain tubes, deodorize the vehicle interior with an ozone generator (as needed) and replace the vehicle’s in-cabin air filter.
Warranty info: Repairs will be covered for eligible vehicles under the provisions of the new-car warranty.
What owners should do: Call your local dealer with your vehicle identification number to determine if your vehicle is involved in this service action. You can also call Infiniti at 800-662-6200. Reference TSB number 14-039B.
