For the 2013 model year, the Nissan Versa sedan gets improved gas mileage, a new transmission option and more standard features. The 2013 Nissan Versa sedan is available in three trims , 1.6 S, 1.6 SV and 1.6 SL.

The Versa hatchback is also available for 2013, but is again a carryover of the previous-generation Versa.

Fuel economy has improved on the Versa sedan with a continuously variable automatic transmission; it’s now rated at 31/40 mpg city/highway, which is an improvement of 1 mpg city and 2 mpg highway. The CVT is standard on SV and SL trims and is available on the base S trim. CVT-equipped models now come with a standard rear spoiler.

For 2013, the S trim is available with a choice of three transmissions: a five-speed manual transmission, the CVT and a new four-speed automatic transmission. The four-speed automatic gets the worst gas mileage of the three: 26/35 mpg. Presumably, the four-speeder was added to bring down costs — upgrading to a CVT on a 2012 S trim cost $2,130 more than one with a manual transmission. When you opt for a CVT on the S trim, you also get standard cruise control, silver trim accents and a four-speaker stereo system.

The Versa sedan can now be equipped with a backup camera; it’s available on the SL trim with the Tech Package. SL-trimmed models also come standard with a passive keyless-entry system, remote trunk release, sunvisor extensions, a driver’s armrest and engine immobilizer.

Nissan hasn’t announced pricing for the 2013 Versa just yet. The 2013 Nissan Versa sedan goes on sale next month.
