The problem: These vehicles may exhibit a whine that emanates from the transmission while traveling at speeds of 10 mph and faster. The problem occurs in all types of driving situations: acceleration, deceleration and steady speeds. It does not depend on rpms, gear or transmission temperature.
Corrective action: On affected vehicles, dealers will confirm the condition and replace the vehicle’s transaxle. Techs will then road-test the vehicle to confirm the condition is gone.
Warranty info: Repairs will be covered under Mazda’s powertrain limited warranty, which is good for 60 months/60,000 miles, whichever comes first.
What owners should do: Call your local dealer with your vehicle’s identification number to determine if your vehicle is involved in this service action. You can also call Mazda at 800-222-5500. Reference TSB No. 0500414.
