10 Biggest News Stories of the Week: Hyundai Palisade Accelerates to the Top, Genesis G80 Jumps Up

In the six model years since its arrival, the Hyundai Palisade has earned multiple awards and had countless praises heaped upon it by our editors and expert reviewers — so it is in good faith when we say that of all the ways the all-new 2026 Palisade succeeds in preserving or improving upon greatness, the mid-size three-row SUV’s acceleration remains a sad trombone in an otherwise sweet symphony.

As Cars.com reviewer Conner Golden laments in his comprehensive critique of the redesigned Palisade — our most popular article of the past week — its new 3.5-liter V-6 engine not only fails to improve acceleration but actually loses a couple of ticks on the spec sheet. Sluggish acceleration isn’t what you want in a family hauler when you’re trying to merge or pass in busy holiday highway traffic while loaded down with passengers and luggage on a road trip. Then again, the Palisade (particularly the Calligraphy trim on which much of our review is based) remains so well appointed and upscale inside, everyone may be too comfortable to care about the obscene hand gestures coming from the car you just cut off pulling into the passing lane — even for occupants who didn’t rank high enough in size or status to sit further toward the front, populating the uncommonly accommodating third row. You just can’t get this kind of luxury in a nonluxe vehicle for the $58,000 as-tested price of the Calligraphy trim we drove — and the (qualified) off-road capability of the XRT Pro variant actually goes above and beyond appearance-package posturing that’s all too common these days.

“Within the context of these two trims, the 2026 Hyundai Palisade is roundly impressive and immediately a clear class standout, picking up and quickly charging ahead from where the prior generation left off,” Golden concludes in his review.

Elsewhere on the countdown, as well as in the Hyundai family — namely its Genesis luxury brand — the 2026 G80 is primed and priced for the new model year. Mostly carrying over save for variants that didn’t make the journey, including the all-electric and 3.5T Sport Advanced trim level of the mid-size sedan, the G80 starts at $59,945 (including destination charge). For car shoppers keeping score at home, you’ll pay a cool $1,350 to $2,140 more for the privilege of purchasing the same vehicle with a “2026” on the Monroney. With the entry-level 2.5T variant set at just under 60 grand, prices rise incrementally across the four other trims in the lineup (the 2.5T Advanced, 2.5T Sport Prestige and 3.5T Sport Prestige make up the middle) and reach just under $81,000 for the range-topping 3.5T Prestige Black.
