Despite electric vehicles generally being pricier than their gas-powered counterparts, taking the plug-in plunge is all about saving — saving fuel, saving the planet and, yes, saving money. Realizing EV money savings is an incremental endeavor, but that doesn’t mean you can’t work on your short game with Cars.com’s roundup of the most modestly priced electric cars you can buy right now — one of the most popular articles on our weekly countdown of most read news stories.

The models on our list range in starting price from just over $27,000 at the low end up to nearly $43,000 at the high end, with accommodating all-electric driving ranges ranging from a daily-driver-friendly 100 miles up to a road-trip-ready 361 miles. Our list of 11 affordable EVs starts with the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV hatchback and its EUV crossover counterpart and ends with the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5.

On the other end of the spending spectrum, if you’re looking to live that luxe electric life, Cars.com reviewers tested the 2023 Lucid Air’s Touring trim. That’s not to say you won’t save money on this model of the all-electric luxury sedan, as its price falls under 100 grand versus the significantly spendier Grand Touring and Dream Edition Performance models — and you still get an EPA-estimated 384 miles of range, competitive in the very top of the class at that price. In standardized cargo testing, the Lucid Air Touring performed admirably, with generous rear trunk space and accommodating load height, while the front trunk is nearly triple that of the Tesla Model S — meaning yes, you can put a lot of junk in the frunk. In children’s car seat tests, installation was a mixed bag, with pros and cons, but the rear car doors’ ability to open to a nearly 90-degree angle is invaluable when maneuvering a bulky car seat. As for charging convenience, we charged the Lucid Air on a Level 2 home charger at 40 amps, refilling the 92-kilowatt-hour battery from 13%-100% in just under 10 hours at a competitive average rate of 34.5 miles of range per hour.
