What’s New for the 2025 Jeep Wrangler?

The iconic Jeep Wrangler soldiers into another year, but after a major update and face-lift for the 2024 model year, the brand is making only a couple minor tweaks to the ‘25 models. Once again available as a two- or four-door with a gas or plug-in hybrid powertrain, it’s still the convertible-topped, go-anywhere, doors-off lifestyle vehicle that it always has been. Find out what’s new for the 2025 Wrangler and if you should spring for a new one or a 2024 model.

What’s New for 2025?

For a brief moment, Jeep said that the base 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine would only be available with a manual transmission on the two-door Wrangler, but it then reversed course due to “customer demand” (translation: “oops, we goofed”) and will once again offer the base V-6 with an automatic transmission — for an eye-popping $4,500.

Beyond that, the only changes for 2025 are newly standard power locks and windows on all Wranglers; a new special edition called the Willys ‘41 4xe with special military-inspired olive-drab paint; and available Active Cabin Ventilation, which allows customers to air out their Wranglers remotely via the Jeep app. And sadly, while the V-8-powered Rubicon 392 is no more, the totally loaded 392 Final Edition gets one more year of life, according to Jeep. Otherwise, the Wrangler and Wrangler 4xe (plug-in hybrid) carry into 2025 unchanged.

Eight colors are available for the Wrangler for 2025, including the new matte-green paint (dubbed ’41) that’s exclusive to the ‘41 Willys trim. Bright White is the only no-cost color option. The other options are Anvil, Black, Firecracker Red, Granite Crystal and Hydro Blue, all of which cost $595; Fathom Blue adds $895.

Powertrain Specs and MPG

Powering the Wrangler is a choice of four different powertrains. The standard engine in all Wranglers (except the four-door Sahara) is the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 making 285 horsepower and 260 pounds-feet of torque. It can be had with a standard six-speed manual or optional eight-speed automatic transmission. The optional engine in all trims (but standard on the four-door Sahara) is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 270 hp and 295 pounds-feet of torque mated only to an eight-speed automatic transmission. If you like electrified powertrains, the Wrangler 4xe (only available as a four-door SUV) mates the turbo 2.0-liter engine with two electric motors, an eight-speed automatic and a 17.3-kilowatt-hour battery pack; it delivers a total of 375 hp and 470 pounds-feet of torque. The fourth and final powertrain is only available in the Rubicon 392 Final Edition: a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 making 470 hp and 470 pounds-feet of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Several four-wheel drive systems are available on the Wrangler. The Command-Trac part-time 4WD comes standard on the Sport, Sport S, Willys and Sahara. Rubicons use a Rock-Trac part-time system with a 4:1 low-range gear ratio; full-time 4WD is optional on gas-powered Rubicons and standard on the 4xe Rubicon. The Rubicon 392 and the rest of the 4xe lineup use a slightly different full-time Selec-Trac 4WD system with a 2.72:1 transfer case.

Regardless of powertrain, two-door Wranglers are rated to tow up to 2,000 pounds and four-door Wranglers up to 3,500 pounds. The exception to that is the four-door Rubicon, which can be had with an optional full-floating Dana 44 heavy-duty rear axle that boosts towing capacity to 5,000 pounds.

EPA-rated fuel economy ratings vary, but unless you’re opting for the 4xe, don’t expect any of them to be good. The two-door Wrangler is rated at 17/23/19 mpg city/highway/combined for the V-6 with the six-speed manual transmission (2025 ratings for the automatic transmission with the V-6 were not available at time of writing) and 20/23/21 mpg for the turbo 2.0-liter with eight-speed automatic. The four-door Wrangler comes in at 16/22/19 mpg for the V-6 with the manual and 20/22/21 mpg for the 2.0-liter with the automatic. The V-8 powered Rubicon 392 was also not yet rated at the time of this writing. The 4xe is rated at 49 mpg-equivalent overall and 20 mpg combined when operating on an empty battery; electric-only range is 22 miles, with a 370-mile overall range.

Tech Features

Despite the Wrangler’s mission as a rough-and-tumble, go-anywhere adventure vehicle, it still features a considerable amount of on-board tech. For 2024, it received an upgrade to its multimedia system, with a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen running Uconnect 5. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The navigation system also comes preloaded with more than 200 trail maps around the country, allowing it to function off-road in the backcountry, as well (a $39.99 annual subscription expands that to over 3,000 trails). The Wrangler also received some upgraded amenities, including acoustic front glass, thicker carpet, more sound-deadening foam and available power front seats. For 2025, changes are minimal, adding standard power locks and windows on all variants, as well as a newly available Active Cabin Ventilation function that will air out the Jeep remotely.

Unique to the Wrangler is a variety of convertible top options (every Wrangler has a removable roof and doors). A manual soft top is standard, and two hardtop options are available. The Sky One-touch power top combines a large power-retractable soft top nestled in a hardtop frame, and the Sunrider hardtop option makes the front section of the hard top a manually retractable vinyl roof.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

New for 2024 were standard overhead side airbags for front and rear seats, a first for the Wrangler, but nothing new is added for 2025. Adaptive cruise control is standard on the Sport S and above (stop-and-go traffic functionality is available), while blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are available on several trims. Standard equipment includes a rear backup camera, traction control and stability control with electronic roll mitigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration rated the 2025 Jeep Wrangler in four-door form four stars in frontal barrier safety and three stars for rollover resistance. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2025 Wrangler, but the agency tested the 2024 model in some areas, giving it a marginal or poor rating for its headlight performance (based on trim) and a poor rating for front pedestrian crash avoidance.

Cars.com tested a 2024 Wrangler 4xe for child-safety seat fitment; it earned all A and B grades.

Should You Buy a 2024 or 2025 Jeep Wrangler?

Given the very minor changes for the 2025 model year and the fact that the 2024 models received some serious upgrades, opting for a 2024 that might still be on a dealer lot would be a great way to find a bargain. As of this writing, there were just over 10,000 brand-new 2024 Wranglers in dealer inventory on Cars.com and a tick more than 3,600 4xe models. That’s not a whole lot, but now that these are “last year’s models,” dealers will be especially incentivized to move them out. If you must have a ‘25, there are nearly 7,000 units on lots, with 1,700 4xe models, as well.

The big reason to perhaps go for a 2025 model might be if you’re looking for a two-door Wrangler, as those are fairly rare. That means there are fewer than 500 2024 two-door models sitting around (there are 1,300 2025 models in inventory, however). Another big reason to go for a ‘25 is if you have a specific option, trim or color combination in mind. Wranglers are ridiculously customizable, even from the factory, so ordering the exact one you want, with all the various features and specialty trim items that can be rolled into a monthly payment, would have to now be a ‘25 model.
