2025 Ford Maverick: Standard Hybrid Power, Price Leaps Nearly $2,500

Ford’s compact Maverick pickup truck has been a hit, soaring well past 100,000 sales in 2024. Looking to keep that momentum going, Ford gave the compact pickup its first update for the 2025 model year, with tweaked front styling differentiating the trim levels, more standard and available tech features (including the 4,000-pound towing package, which is now available with both engines), and the option of all-wheel drive with the hybrid powertrain.

Powertrain Specs and MPG
The efficiency and capability combo is the latest development in the Maverick’s meandering powertrain story that has seen both the hybrid and turbocharged four-cylinders play the role of standard engine, and AWD sometimes standard with the turbo and sometimes optional, but never available with the hybrid — until now.
Making a total of 191 horsepower and 155 pounds-feet of torque, the hybrid powertrain is standard on the XL, XLT and Lariat trim levels. It uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, an electric motor and a continuously variable automatic transmission and returns an EPA-rated 42/33/37 mpg city/highway/combined with front-wheel drive. Official estimates for the AWD hybrid are not yet available.
Standard on the Tremor and new-for-2025 Maverick Lobo, the EcoBoost turbocharged 2.0-liter four puts out 238 hp and 275 pounds-feet. For 2025, the EcoBoost engine is only available with AWD. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic in most Mavericks, but the Lobo gets a paddle-shifted seven-speed automatic. In the XL, XLT and Lariat, the EcoBoost returns 22/29/25 mpg, while the Tremor’s off-road tires and lifted suspension penalize it to the tune of 20/24/21 mpg.
Ford’s pricing shenanigans continue this year. On the XL and XLT, the hybrid powertrain and FWD are the standard setup. (The hybrid is also standard on the Lariat, but with AWD.) Adding AWD costs $2,220 on the hybrid XL and XLT, but upgrading to the turbocharged engine — which includes AWD — costs only $1,020. On the Lariat, the EcoBoost is $1,200 cheaper than the hybrid.
Availability and Pricing
The 2025 Ford Maverick is on sale now. Full line pricing, including the $1,595 destination fee, is as follows:
- XL: $27,990
- XLT: $30,490
- Lobo: $36,695
- Lariat: $38,730
- Tremor: $41,790
Safety Features and Trim Levels
While its base price is up nearly $2,500 from 2024, the entry-level Maverick XL remains a fairly basic package. Standard safety equipment is limited to forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and LED headlights with automatic high beams. It rides on 17-inch steel wheels, has manual climate control and, while the push of a button will unlock the doors, you still have to poke a piece of metal into a special hole in the dashboard and twist it to start the engine. There is, however, an 8-inch digital display in the instrument cluster, six speakers and a 13.2-inch touchscreen with satellite radio.
The XLT is a small upgrade, adding 17-inch aluminum wheels, a trailer-hitch receiver, and keyless entry and starting. The Lobo, on the other hand, seeks to spark a revival of the mini-truck craze from the 1980s and ’90s. It is lowered over black-painted turbofan-looking 19-inch wheels and features a black grille and exterior trim. Only available with the EcoBoost engine, the Lobo also features an upgraded AWD system with a torque-vectoring rear differential for sharper handling. Black synthetic leather with blue and lime-green stitching sets the Lobo apart visually, and it gains upgraded LED headlights with signature lighting, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning and lane-centering steering.
The Lariat is the sybarite’s Maverick, taking the Lobo’s luxury features and adding remote start, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, an eight-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system and wireless phone charging. It rides on 19-inch chrome wheels and features heated side mirrors, a power-sliding rear window, LED bed lighting, a spray-in bedliner and a 360-degree parking camera.
Sitting almost an inch higher than other AWD Mavericks and with a unique front bumper for an improved approach angle, the Tremor includes all of the Lariat’s luxury features. It rides on 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires and features orange accents inside and out.
