The GV80 spearheaded Genesis’ entry into the SUV wars when it debuted back in 2021. The brand is choosing to use model-year 2023 to shuffle packaging and equipment options for the SUV while also raising the starting price slightly to $56,645 (all pricing includes destination).

RWD Dropped for 2023

While the 2023 GV80 is largely carried over from 2022, Genesis chose to drop rear-wheel drive entirely from the lineup. Instead, all 2023 models now have standard all-wheel drive, which follows prior moves made by some of the brand’s rivals.

In addition to embracing AWD, Genesis also replaced three exterior colors — Adriatic Gray, Himalayan Gray and Melbourne Gray Matte — with Capri Blue, Makalu Gray and Makalu Gray Matte. The brand confirmed that while Capri Blue is currently in production, the two new gray colors won’t be available until March 2023. The rest of the changes are relatively minor and include a tweaked design for the second-row cupholder, the addition of an oil-life sensor and management system, and a new design for the infotainment system’s control knob.

Powertrains are carried over from the 2022 model, with the base engine continuing to be a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 300 horsepower. Meanwhile, the 375-hp, turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 continues to serve as the performance-focused power plant. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The four-cylinder engine gets an EPA-rated 20/24/22 mpg city/highway/combined, while the V-6 gets 18/23/20 mpg.
