CARS.COM —Mazda took the wraps off the redesigned 2017 CX-5, the second generation of its compact SUV, at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. The CX-5 is a key seller for the brand and Mazda didn’t mess with success by giving it a radical redo. For 2017, changes in the CX-5’s Kodo (“Soul of Motion”) design are evolutionary, with a more aggressive grille and front end that evoke Mazda’s redesigned 2016 CX-9 three-row SUV and side sculpting that has hints of the new CX-3 subcompact SUV.
The 2017 CX-5 again will offer 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter four-cylinder SkyActiv engines, and – coming in the latter half of 2017 – it will also offer Mazda’s first diesel for the U.S., a 2.2-liter four-cylinder. Inside, the new CX-5 gets a restyled interior with white or black leather or black cloth and a new dashboard topped, as in other Mazdas, with a tablet-style display that has a knob-and-button controller on the console.
