Just because you choose to drive a sensible, affordable, fuel-efficient car doesn’t mean you don’t also wanna accelerate through turns and throw it around when the impulse strikes. If you are just such a “little bit country, little bit rock ’n’ roll” type, the 2025 Honda Civic hybrid lets you check all the boxes on your shopping list. And we know this because — as chronicled in the top news story on Cars.com’s countdown of most popular articles of the week — our editors just recently tested the latest generation of this hybrid Honda hatchback for both fun and fuel economy.

Following a previous fuel-economy test in the summer of the Civic hybrid’s chief rivals, the Toyota Corolla Hybrid and Hyundai Elantra Hybrid, the Honda returned impressive real-world gas mileage as much as 8% better than its EPA-estimated 48 mpg combined figure taking the same route under similar driving conditions. And although it failed to even come close to its competitors’ besting of their own EPA estimates, its sporty ride and handling, as well as its impressive oomph courtesy of its 200-horsepower, hybrid-assisted 2.0-liter four-cylinder powertrain, would presumably make it the one to beat in a proper head-to-head-to-head comparison of the trio.

In other well-read articles, if for less desirable reasons, if you own one of nearly 295,000 newer Honda Pilots or Acura TLX or MDX vehicles, you’ll want to pay attention because your car may be under federal recall for a defect in the fuel injection system that could result in a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Affected Pilot SUVs come from model-years 2023-25, while the TLX Type S sedan and MDX Type S SUV from Honda’s luxury brand, Acura, come from model-years 2021-25 and 2022-25, respectively. Honda will begin notifying owners on March 17, after which dealers will reprogram the fuel injection electronic control unit software for free.

For the full details on the recall of the Honda Pilot and Acura TLX and MDX — including how to contact the automaker and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with questions in the meantime — follow the link below to this week’s No. 5 news story.
