  • 100k miles so far...

Purchased used S 5-speed manual with 33,000 miles on it about four years back. Just passed 100,000 miles last month. Only one problem so far, with the passenger door latch assembly. We get about 37 MPG mixed city and highway, and 45-50 MPG in interstate highway driving. FWD and snow tires work fine here in Wisconsin. The turbo motor and 5-speed provide all of the acceleration one will *actually* need, and also provide those great economy numbers. As part of the Golf platform, it's a solid car and the handling is good. The ride comfort is also good, maybe enhanced by the taller 16" tires on the S version. Simple controls, without an overly complicated radio / info system. Manual ventilation controls (knobs) are a huge plus. With the rear seats down, it has about the same cargo space as our 2009 Subaru Outback: little narrower but also a little longer. Good outward visibility. Driver seat can get a little tiring after a long drive (4 hours or more) but it's comparable with other highway vehicles we've owned. Reasonably quiet inside considering it's essentially an economy vehicle. A very nice economy vehicle, though. We like it enough that we're considering getting another one before there are no more good wagons in the market.

  • Rear window blows out

Basic wife car. Rear window blew out at 31,000 miles. A significant safety concern to me but not Volkswagen. Wife is retired and disabled. Thankful she was not hurt or had a heart attack when the rear window exploded.

  • This vehicle is fun to drive !

Two cars ago I had a CClass Mercedes, last car an Audi A4 and I find the Golf Sportwagen to be just as fast and more planted on corners. On a more practical level it holds loads more and never loses its highway composure when transporting heavy loads

  • Engineering flaws again

The 2017 VW Golf has an engineering flaw in the sunroof that causes the drains to get clogged with dirt. Most sunroofs have a metal windscreen that pops up, but the Golf has a fabric windscreen that captures dust and allows it to flow into the channel. Our sunroof leaked as a result. We had it in for the 10k, 20k service and were never told about maintaining the sunroof by blowing out the drains. But when it leaked they said it was our fault due to poor maintenance, while also telling us that at 40k miles they would have checked it. VW is not a good company. We bought the diesel that they engineered to pass the emissions test illegally, and had to buy this car as a replacement. We now have a regular job of blowing out the drains.

  • Back to vdub

After owning a 2000 Passat glx I traded it after 170,000 trouble free kilometers for a 2017 Ford Escape 2 litre eco boost all wheel drive. We have some bad winters in BC every few years,so I thought I would go to a all wheel drive vehicle this time.I factory ordered a well equipped SE leather etc.And to be fair to Ford, this is not a Bad vehicle. But I missed my Passat So much,I like to drive a car hard sometimes(under safe conditions) and this is where the German designed cars shine over any other manufacturer.Only my opinion. But driving the escape hard was a real workout, and not even safe.Again only my opinion. But with a higher centre of gravity, terrible steering feedback, lots of understeer, and the aerodynamics and look of a potatoe what did I expect.Just purchase a 2018 Highline 4 motion with DSG,tech and luxury package. After 5 minutes of driving this car I knew I was back home.Love those vw/audi engineers. Some people would say just slow down.I say,but it?s Funkin-Gruvin!Oh yeah.My dog fits in the back of my wagon?s cargo space easily.Better than a Volvo v60,BMW,and about the same as a Allroad, and they cost at least $25,000.00 more in Canada.I?m happy, the dogs happy????? • Practicality embodied

VW packs a lot of thought and tech to their cars. I?ve appreciated the touches in the interior that make it advanced- yet not cluttered. You?ll never feel overwhelmed by info. The 4motion gives added confidence to a car already packed with safety features and the turbo makes it actually fun to run around town. It?s my wife?s car and I try to steal it from her all the time

  • Sassy wagon

Love this sleek little wagon. Plenty of zip, and the 4motion is great for out Vermont winters. The Appleplay lets me have a navigation system without paying extra. The interior is minimalistic, love the classy look. Plenty of space for anything you need to carry. Back seats are comfy too. Love it!
