It continues to be a busy month for Ford in terms of recalls, as the automaker is now recalling more than 197,400 Mustang Mach-E electric SUVs over an issue with the rear doors that may prevent backseat occupants from being able to exit the vehicle.

Affected vehicles include model year 2021-25 Mustang Mach-Es. In the event of a low battery charge, the electronic door latches may remain locked after the driver or front passenger exits the vehicle and shuts the door. This can result in trapping someone who is unable to reach the inside door-release handles, such as a child in the backseat, increasing the risk of injury.

To resolve the issue, dealers will update the Powertrain Control Module and Secondary On-Board Disagnostic Control Module C software for free. Ford will notify owners July 23, and second letters will be mailed once the remedy is available, which is anticipated for Sep. 29. Owners with questions may contact Ford at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 25S65), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
