It’s already been a busy June for Ford, with recalls on its F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck, Maverick compact pickup and Nautilus SUV from luxury sub-brand Lincoln. Now, the automaker is recalling more than 492,100 examples of its Explorer SUV over an issue with the door trim.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2016-17 Explorers. The B-pillar trim on the driver and front passenger doors may detach while driving and become a road hazard for other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash. Prior to detachment, owners may visually notice the B-pillar trim separating from the top of the front doors or hear excess wind and rattling noise as they drive.
A remedy for the issue is currently under development. Owners will be notified of the risk by letter June 9, and a second letter will be sent as soon as a remedy is available. In the meantime, those with further questions can contact Ford at 866-436-7332 (the automaker’s number for this recall is 25S53), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
